Just be sure before signing into any scholarship which requires a contract, to read the agreement thoroughly.

Types of Contractual Scholarships

If you are looking for single parent scholarships and decide to apply for a contractual scholarship, make sure you carefully select the type of scholarship you want to get involved. Some scholarships which have contractual agreements are:

. Armed Forces Health Profession Scholarship ? given to students in the medical field. The agreement is to be a full service member of the army, navy air force or marine and to serve as a medic in your chosen area of service for an agreed upon amount of time.

. Indian Health Services Scholarship ? gives students in the medical field, who are Native American, full tuition and other medical education funds as needed plus a monthly stipend. The agreement is to serve for a year for each full year of tuition which was given. This seems to be very good single parent scholarships, as it is quite expensive to become a nurse or doctor. Also, you are not required to be in the armed forces, as with the latter scholarship.

. Hospital Scholarship ? vary by hospitals, however most programs will assist with tuition costs. The agreement being that a student will work in the hospital for an agreed upon amount of time as a resident.

. National Health Service Corporation (NHSC) ? assists with a student?s medical education. The agreement is that upon completion the student will work for the Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons or in rural community health centers. The agreement to work in rural areas is because there is a shortage of medics in rural areas.

. Teaching Scholarships (minority/urban areas) ? Teaching Scholarships take on many different names. It depends on the area which you live or will be teaching, scholarships vary, but are all centered on the same idea. Students who choose to study education will be given scholarships. The amount depends on the state, and the program?s need. The agreement is usually that upon graduation the recipient will teach in either school in urban areas with low income students or special education students.

The above are just a few contractual single parent scholarships that are available. In order to find others, start by doing a search online, as well as contacting your local community agency or local Alderman?s office for more information on organizations and scholarships available in your area. Many scholarships vary by state, prospective school and even by city in some cases.

Read the Fine, Before You Sign

Before turning in your single parent scholarships application, make sure you have read over any contractual agreements. You don?t want to be given a scholarship only to find out that there is a contract which you have no knowledge of. Even though its only college, the contract is binding and you must at some point adhere to it.
