If you have ever wanted to become a lawyer or study law, without having to quit your job and move to a city with a law school, you are in luck! It is now possible, through an online Law Degree program, to do just that. It is often said that a lawyer is the second oldest profession in the world. I don't know about that but I do know that there are a multitude of directions a law degree can take. The legal profession is so much broader than the stereotypical courtroom drama we see on the news, in TV shows, and in the movies.
A lawyer or attorney is basically a representative for their client in matters of law. This could mean either bringing charges against someone else or defending against charges made against their client. It can also mean that the attorney or attornies "counsel" the person, business, or organization as to their actions.
Some of the many specializations are as follows:
Health Administration
Criminal Defense
Personal Injury
Business Law
Patent and Copyright Law
Real Estate Law
Estate Law
Many online law degree programs do require an undergraduate degree prior to beginning a degree program in law. A Master's Degree is the first step usually and many times can be completed entirely online. The next step is a Juris Doctorate or JD which can also be completed online depending on the particular school. It should be noted that admission to these programs usually requires a Bachelor's Degree and an admission test for law school, the LSAT or Law School Admission Test.
While you may be able to complete much of the work for an online law degree actually online, there are usually limitations and other requirements such as internships and residencies that need to be fulfilled prior to sitting for the Bar Exam. Once you have fulfilled those requirements and passed the Bar, you can pat yourself on the back...you are now a lawyer. There are a lot of job openings every year for newly minted attornies in both the private sector and the government sector.
If an online law degree intrests you, take the challange and further your education and career possibilities. You can find the online law degree program that is right for you!
