Job Description

Ecology Action is an environmental public benefit corporation (non-profit) serving California communities by partnering with local and regional governments, regulatory agencies, and utilities to provide services such as pollution prevention, transportation alternatives, recycling and waste minimization, and energy efficiency. Ecology Action will soon be engaged with the California Energy Commission and other partners to deliver a fast-paced, statewide energy and water efficiency and renewable energy program.

Summary

The Energy Upgrade Specialist will be responsible for the local coordination of EUC on-the-ground program delivery including community-appropriate outreach, education, training, marketing customer technical assistance and customer support. The Energy Upgrade Specialist will assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, business partners, and community leaders; tracking program deliverables and contributing to regular project financial and progress reports. The Energy Upgrade Specialist will also help organize and represent the Program and Ecology Action at seminars, workshops, and meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Regional Manager to develop local delivery coordination in line with EUC program goals and objectives
  • Conducting County or regional EUC outreach and coordination including:?
  • Property-owner outreach
  • Contractor outreach
  • Key stakeholder identification and outreach
  • Training and educational presentations
  • Stakeholder meetings (including active role in Technical and Local Government Advisory Committees)
  • Customer support, advocacy and technical assistance
  • Web-portal information updates
  • Collaborate with the Regional Manager to create and implement the program Sustainability (continuity) plan.?
  • Facilitate formation of County-specific or regional teams for successful implementation of EUC outreach and coordination responsibilities?
  • Regularly confer with other EUC team members to effectively problem-solve, accelerate use of best-practices, or otherwise maintain and enhance program delivery across the state
  • Oversee local program QA/QC
  • Facilitate customer satisfaction/feedback information gathering
  • Track and report on local budget, goal attainment, and cost-effectiveness

Business development:

  • Identification of new bidding/, funding or partnership opportunities,
  • Identification innovative technologies, delivery approaches and niche markets.?
  • Representing Ecology Action and the EUC program at various meetings, hearings, workshops and related functions.?
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned to meet department and company goals.

Compensation:

Total compensation range is $55,000 to $75,000 annual salary (exempt), a portion of which (10%) is tied to a performance incentive plan. This is a full-time position subject to continued funding of this program, estimated through March 2012, and likely beyond.

Qualifications and Skills

Required qualifications include:

  • BA/BS Degree in building sciences, engineering, environmental science/studies, energy management, public policy, planning or related fields, or the equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in construction, energy management, environmental consulting or related fields
  • California Driver's License
  • Current automobile insurance
  • Access to a high-speed internet connection at a home office or similar remote work location.

Required skills:

Energy Upgrade Specialist must have demonstrated skills in the following areas:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Group presentation/public speaking skills
  • Comfortable functioning independently in a remote working arrangement
  • Comfortable working within a geographically dispersed team
  • Diplomatically managing complex relationships with clients, business leaders, program partners, and community stakeholders
  • Experience with conservation, energy efficiency, water efficiency or similar program outreach, education and/or technical assistance provision
  • Familiarity with residential and/or commercial construction, green building, green jobs workforce development and similar practices, particularly those programs or practices within their particular County or Region
  • Familiarity with renewable energy technologies for residential and/or commercial use
  • General familiarity with regional and state environmental policy and building codes
  • General familiarity with environmental rebate and/or incentive programs such as utility rebates or California Solar Initiative?
  • Project management and control fundamentals (work plan, schedule, resourcing)
  • Sales, marketing, or demonstrated behavior change program success as outcomes of work experience.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Second language writing and speaking proficiency desired, especially but not limited to Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese and/or Russian
  • Direct green building, construction, energy efficiency, renewable energy generation system installation and/or auditing experience

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear, and use a computer keyboard and monitor. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employee will be required to drive to meetings on a regular basis.

Work Environment:

Generally, the work environment is an office setting. Occasionally, the work may be performed in residential, commercial or industrial settings.
