Ellison Strikes Gold at Archery World Cup
Ogden, Utah (August 5, 2011) ? Brady Ellison of the United States won three gold medals during the recurve championship on his home soil championship at the 2011 Archery World Cup in Ogden, Utah. Ellison, the Scottsdale, Arizona native won gold in individual men?s, and led the USA to gold in mixed team and men?s team events.
?Winning three golds in a row is awesome, but winning in front of a home crowd was so awesome,? said Ellison. ?The home crowd was great and behind us all night.?
Overall the United States walked away as the biggest winners, taking home four total medals. Ellison picked up gold in men?s individual. In the same event, American Joe Fanchin won the bronze medal. In the men?s team recurve event Ellison joined Fanchin and Jake Kaminski to defeat the Chinese team in the gold medal match 220-216. In the mixed team event Ellison once again took gold with teammate Miranda Leek, prevailing over India by a score of 145 to 136.
?I?m really glad that we were able to win the gold in the United States. They are playing the national anthem, and we have all the spectators singing along with it. That was pretty amazing,? said Leek.
India finished the night with three silver medals, taking second place in women?s team and mixed team. Deepika Kumari took silver in women?s individual. Ukraine and China both finished with a gold, silver and bronze medal. China won gold behind Cheng Ming in women?s individual, took silver in men?s team and bronze in women?s team. Ukraine?s Dmytro Hrachov fell to Ellison in the men?s individual.
The Ukrainian team defeated India to win gold in women?s team and bronze in men?s team recurve. Alejandra Valencia of Mexico rounded out the medal winning, taking a bronze for women?s individual.
The Archery World Cup continues on Saturday night (August 6) with compound bow events at Lindquist Field. Doors open at 5:30 pm with the first arrow shot at 6:30 pm.
